ANTONIO GAUDI
Architect (1852-1926)
Antonio Gaudi is our first architect, with his majestic creations throughout the Barcelona area. His house, Casa Batllo is breathtaking. It's so colourful that it would be impossible to wake up in the morning without smiling. Whilst his work may not be familiar to everybody, Gaudi created some of the finest works of modern architecture.
The colours Gaudi chose for the Casa Batllo, built in 1905 could only be described as remarkable and bold. It is said that Gaudi's colour scheme was largely influenced by the colours of marine life. He was also influenced by mountain ranges and the bone structures of large mammals, like whales. This is clearly demonstrated in Casa Batllo, the home in Barcelona, Spain. One thing we like about Gaudi was, he never forgot to add the magic of Stained Glass to his creations. Walking through the Casa Batllo home, you will enjoy his creative qualities in architecture, together with shimmering rays of colour passing through his wonderful Stained Glass windows.

CHARLES RENNIE MACKINTOSH
Architect (1868-1928)
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was an innovator and is undoubtedly one of Scotland's most celebrated architects. His astounding buildings creatively reinterpreted the past and opened the way for the modern movement. Architecture was his first love, though he was also a highly accomplished artist and designer of interiors, furniture, metalwork, glass, stained glass and textiles. In addition to his graphic design work, using nature and organic plant forms, made him an early fan of Symbolism and Art Nouveau. The influence of Mackintoshes work can still be seen today in the colourful works displayed throughout modern developments.

FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT
Architect (1867-1959)
Franklin Lloyd Wright was probably one of greatest supporters of colourful Glass. Wright knew how important it was to brighten up buildings with colourful windows. He created his own style working more towards a contempory look and feel. Even today Wrights work cannot be mistaken. Considered to be one the founders of modern architecture in the United States, Frank Lloyd Wright embraced the use of new technology, materials and engineering to create some of the 20th century's most influential and iconic buildings. During a long and productive career spanning 70 years he designed over 1,000 buildings of which over 400 were built. Wright developed a language of architecture that did not look to Europe but was unique to the United States.
